60" x 74" The “Route 66” fabric line from Exclusively Quilters was the inspiration for this simple quilt with lots of border action. The pattern includes my “Well-behaved Borders” and “Accurate 1/4” Seam” sections to sharpen your skills and help make your project a success. You’ll get plenty of border practice and learn to bring a pop of color between borders with Flat Piping. The piping (or flange) is stitched to the first border with the folds facing the center. The raw edges of the piping, or flange, are sandwiched between the first and second borders. You can leave the flange free or topstitch next to the fold to keep it flat. It adds a more textural element to the quilt than just using a simple 1/2” border. This is repeated between the third and fourth borders, too, but narrower, creating the look of a 1/4” border. Whether you need a quilt for a man-cave, sofa or bed topper, any large-scale or scenic print can be the inspiration for your own creation. |
